Williston State College is set to begin monthly Financial Aid Q&A sessions starting in February. These sessions aim to help students and families navigate the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and explore financial aid opportunities. The events will be held on the third Thursday of each month from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at the Teton Lounge, with a virtual option available.

The 2025-26 FAFSA is crucial for students seeking scholarships such as the Tuition and Fees Scholarship, Homesteader Scholarship, Return2College Scholarship, and MonDak Scholarship, all of which have a deadline of September 30, 2025. Completing the FAFSA also determines eligibility for the Pell Grant, Federal Work-Study, ND State Grant, and various internal scholarships offered by Williston State College.

"These sessions are designed to make the financial aid process as clear and simple as possible," stated Andrea Carver, Director of Financial Aid at Williston State College. "We want students and parents to feel confident about completing the FAFSA and taking advantage of the many opportunities available to fund their education. The recent changes to the FAFSA process have made it more user-friendly than ever."

The U.S. Department of Education has simplified the FAFSA by reducing questions and easing tax information input. Now, only consent is needed from students and parents for tax information transfer directly into the application. Additionally, parents without a Social Security number can create an FSA ID, making it more inclusive.

Participants will learn that submitting a verified FAFSA makes students eligible for federal student loans, though accepting a loan is not mandatory. The Financial Aid Office will also address concerns regarding FAFSA verification—a common procedure ensuring submitted information accuracy.

These sessions are recommended for students, parents, or anyone with questions about financial aid processes.
