The college experience is often described as a thrilling yet challenging journey. Whether students are just beginning, in their second semester, or nearing graduation, faculty and staff at DSU have shared insights to help them succeed. Their advice ranges from stress management to maintaining mental health.

Paul Amberg, Director of Stoxen Library, suggests a straightforward approach to managing stress: “Don’t waste time worrying about problems you can’t solve today. Set a time to deal with it later, and then forget about it.” This strategy allows students to concentrate on immediate tasks without losing sleep over uncontrollable issues.

Mackenzie Hicks, Director of Campus Life, emphasizes the importance of mental health: “It’s okay not to know.” She advises students to prioritize their well-being by taking breaks when needed, exploring new hobbies, and engaging in campus activities. According to Hicks, balancing academics with self-care is crucial for surviving college.
