Dickinson State University’s School of Business and Entrepreneurship (SoBE) is actively collaborating with local businesses and nonprofits, providing students with industry insights and career skills. This initiative enhances learning and readies students for modern job markets.
A recent highlight is SoBE's partnership with the Southwest Art Gallery & Science Center (SWAGSC) in downtown Dickinson. This center offers art exhibits and creative classes, with activities such as pendulum painting that blend art and physics.
Dr. Arogundade from DSU toured SWAGSC, guided by executive director Dustin Young, who shared future renovation plans. Young remarked, “Partnering with DSU provides our organization with opportunities to collaborate with students, professors, and administrators to improve the community of Dickinson and southwest North Dakota.” The partnership includes work with DSU’s various departments and programs to host educational events.
Dr. Arogundade participated in activities like a DSU-themed pendulum painting and a science experiment. Expressing enthusiasm, he noted, “It’s truly inspiring to see both DSU and SWAGSC dedicated to advancing the intellectual, social, and cultural development of North Dakota.”
Students from the Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program (TRHLP) are involved in supporting SWAGSC. Madison Beckler, a DSU junior and TRHLP scholar, oversees this collaboration. Beckler mentioned, "Through my involvement with SWAGSC this past year, I’ve seen how Dustin is integrating science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) into the Dickinson community."
A significant outreach tool is DSU's Discovery Dome, which provides 360-degree educational films, covering topics from astronomy to dinosaurs, to young audiences.
Through such partnerships, SoBE at DSU continues to foster creativity and learning, contributing to the cultural and educational development of the Dickinson area.
