Dickinson State University has established a new position focused on improving campus digitization and operational processes. Josh Nichols, an alumnus with 18 years of experience at the university, will serve as the first Director of Digital Process Improvement.

This role is part of the North Dakota University System’s Envision 2035 strategic plan, which aims to modernize operations across state colleges and universities through digital transformation and increased access to information.

As Director, Nichols will oversee efforts to streamline workflows using digital tools. His tasks include mapping out major university processes, cataloging departmental software, and reviewing related expenses and agreements.

“We’re committed to improving efficiency and transparency across all departments,” said Leslie Wiestock, vice president for finance and administration. “The Director of Digital Process Improvement will help us streamline our systems and make data more accessible and useful for everyone on campus.”

Nichols will collaborate with Information Technology Services as well as external vendors to ensure that systems meet operational needs. He will also coordinate meetings between departments to address data challenges.

“This position is a vital step in modernizing the way we work and serve our students,” said DSU President Scott Molander. “Josh’s deep understanding of our campus and operations makes him the ideal person to lead this important initiative.”

Nichols expressed appreciation for his new role: “As a DSU graduate and long-time employee, I care deeply about the university and its future,” Nichols said. “I’m excited to take on this role and help improve the systems and processes that support our students, faculty, and staff every day.”

The new position was created to promote consistency, clarity, and accessibility in DSU’s digital processes for the benefit of the entire campus community.
