Williston State College is making significant changes to its Business program, set to take effect in the fall of 2025. The program, formerly known as Business Management, will be relaunched under the new title of Business Administration. This change aims to offer students more flexibility and options in their career paths.
"This change reflects where the business world is headed and where our students want to go," stated Leah Windnagle, Associate Professor of Business and Business Program Coordinator. "We’re creating pathways that not only prepare students for the workforce, but also give them choices based on their goals—whether that’s climbing the corporate ladder, launching a business, or transferring to a four-year university."
The revamped program includes a foundation of core courses such as Accounting I & II, Principles of Management, and Microeconomics and Macroeconomics. Students can then specialize in one of four options: Administration, Management, Marketing, or Entrepreneurship. Each specialization is designed to cater to different career ambitions, from transferring to a four-year school to starting a business.
Upon completing the program, students will receive an Associate of Applied Science in Business Administration, with the option to specialize further. Windnagle emphasized that this revamp allows students to pursue what interests them and equips them with the necessary skills for their careers. "It’s about giving them the tools they need, right now, to succeed after graduation," she said.
Additionally, Williston State College plans to introduce career-focused certificates in Leadership, Human Resources, Finance, and Marketing. These programs are still in development and are intended for current professionals seeking to enhance their skills or transition into new roles.
The shift to Business Administration marks an expansion in the curriculum, helping students specialize earlier and build robust career foundations.
