Dickinson State University announces faculty achievements and new appointments

Dickinson State University (DSU) has announced notable achievements and updates involving its staff members. The institution highlights the contributions of its employees, acknowledging their roles in DSU's success.

Dr. Colin Strine, an Associate Professor of Biology at DSU, has co-authored a paper utilizing data from the United States Fish and Wildlife Service's Law Enforcement Management Information System (LEMIS). This research analyzes wildlife trade trends from 2000 to 2022, aiming to draft policy recommendations for improved regulatory mechanisms and data collection. "The goal is to better assess the true impacts of wildlife trade," stated Dr. Strine.

Amy Kass, Assistant Professor of Accounting, was recognized as Best College Professor in The Dickinson Press 2025 Best of the Western Edge Readers’ Choice Contest. Her engaging teaching style and dedication have made a significant impact on her students and colleagues.

Dr. Christopher J. Olson, Assistant Professor of English and Digital Media, co-authored "Mystery Science Theater 3000: A Cultural History," featured in The Wall Street Journal's 2024 Holiday Gift Guide. A book talk exploring the show's cultural influence will be held on February 13th at Klinefelter Hall.

In terms of employee updates, DSU welcomes Dr. Elizabeth Freedman Fowler as Dean of the School of Applied Sciences. Her background in paleontology and education positions her well for this leadership role.

Stephanie Gerving joins DSU as an Instructor of Nursing with experience in maternal-fetal medicine. She aims to inspire critical thinking among future nurses.

Cody Ptacek will provide simulation support at DSU’s Nursing Simulation Center as an Instructor of Nursing and Simulation Technician. He brings expertise in nursing and kinesiology to enhance student experiences with advanced technology.
