Williston State College has announced a new partnership with Dickinson State University and Mayville State University to offer four-year bachelor's degree programs on its campus. This initiative, established through recently signed Memorandums of Understanding, allows students to pursue bachelor's degrees in Williston without needing to relocate.
The collaboration enables students at Williston State College (WSC) to transition smoothly into bachelor's degree programs in fields such as secondary education, business, and social sciences. This effort aims to meet workforce demands in western North Dakota while providing affordable local access to higher education.
"This partnership demonstrates our commitment to expanding opportunities for our students," stated Dr. Bernell Hirning, President of Williston State College. "By partnering with Dickinson State and Mayville State, we’re empowering students to achieve their educational goals close to home, while also serving the needs of our local communities."
The program offers on-site completion of bachelor's degrees using various learning formats including in-person, hybrid, and virtual classes. Students will receive joint advising support for a smooth transition from associate to bachelor’s degree completion. The program is designed as a cost-effective option for earning a four-year degree while living and working locally.
Dr. Brian Van Horn, President of Mayville State University, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration: "Mayville State University is excited about the opportunity to partner with Williston State College to expand our renowned education programs that can further serve the western portion of North Dakota."
Holly Gruhlke, Vice President of Dickinson State University, added: “We are thrilled to expand our partnership with Williston State College by offering face-to-face Bachelor of Business Administration programs in Accounting, Administration, Finance, and Human Resources.”
This Collaborative Bachelors Program strengthens connections within the North Dakota University System by providing flexible education options that support both students and the community.
