Dickinson State University (DSU) is committed to maintaining affordable tuition for students. By offering in-state tuition rates nationwide and freezing tuition for several years, DSU has aimed to reduce financial burdens on students. The DSU Heritage Foundation (DSU HF) plays a crucial role in this effort by providing scholarships through donations and fundraising.
Emma Welch, a sophomore majoring in elementary education from Bowman, North Dakota, is one such beneficiary of these scholarships. She applied for various scholarships at DSU and received several awards, including an honors scholarship for the Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program (TRHLP), an athletic scholarship, the DSU Hawk Talk scholarship, and the Alice Travers scholarship.
“Being able to receive these scholarships is something that I am forever grateful for and I will never take for granted,” Welch expressed. She added that her college experience would have been different without this support.
Welch’s involvement with TRHLP during her freshman year taught her valuable lessons about community support. She participated in organizing a fundraiser called TEAM TODD to assist a family in need, learning that “Together Hawks Make A Difference.”
“The supportive community at DSU is something I wish everyone could experience,” Welch stated. Her time at DSU has allowed her to form lasting connections with professors, classmates, and staff across campus.
“The people on campus are incredibly supportive,” Welch noted, mentioning specific individuals who contributed to her positive experience at DSU. “Coming to DSU was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.”
With the help of the DSU Heritage Foundation and a strong campus community, students like Emma Welch continue to thrive academically and personally.
