The School of Applied Sciences at Dickinson State University is enhancing its programs and faculty to better prepare students for careers in scientific and technological fields. The school aims to align its curriculum with student goals and industry needs.

Dr. Elizabeth Freedman Fowler, dean of the School of Applied Sciences, emphasized the importance of evaluating and improving the curriculum to equip graduates with necessary skills for both the workforce and graduate programs.

The computer science program is undergoing significant changes, including new faculty additions and expanded course options. This effort is a response to high student interest and industry demand.

Md Ochiuddin Miah has joined as a new faculty member in computer science. He is completing his Ph.D. at North Dakota State University and has a background in human-computer interaction, machine learning, augmented reality, virtual reality, and security. Miah expressed enthusiasm about inspiring students to solve real-world problems through technology.

Dr. Lee Garner has also joined the faculty, specializing in cybersecurity. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Bedfordshire with research focusing on cyberattacks using 3D-printed drones. Garner aims to develop a dynamic cybersecurity program that blends theory with practical application.

Dr. Holly Gruhlke, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost, highlighted DSU’s commitment to academic innovation and student success through these enhancements.

Under Dr. Freedman’s leadership, the school remains focused on innovation, engagement, and excellence in preparing future scientists and technologists for impactful careers.
